| Description |
Through the NC Emergency Foreclosure Act, The Commissioner of Banks shall use six hundred thousand dollars ($600,000) of the funds available to the State Banking Commission in the 2008 2009 fiscal year to make grants to nonprofit counseling agencies in the State that are designated and approved by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency. Grants made under this section shall be used to provide housing counseling and related services to help homeowners avoid home loss and foreclosure and to preserve home equity. Grants may also be used to provide training for counselors. Program was expanded and extended via GS change 8/2/2010 to expand the program to all home loans (prime and subprime) and extend the program to 5/31/2013. In addition, this program is funded by the institutions who need to file pre-foreclosure notices on properties in NC. |
