| Description |
Access to health services is a serious problem faced by North Carolina's uninsured and indigent residents. Many of the State's residents have lost health insurance coverage due to recent layoffs in an economy that has seen numerous textiles, furniture, and other industries close. While geographic access has been addressed over the past 30 years, the economic access issues are growing worse. This program is designed to address the needs of this particularly vulnerable and expanding population. Funds are awarded through a competitive grant application process. Grant applications are reviewed and approved by a team comprised of community health center, rural health center, local non-profit health center, Institute of Medicine, and public health department representatives. |
