| Description |
The General Communicable Disease Control (GCDC) program provides assistance to local health departments, health professionals and the general public to detect, investigate, and control the spread of communicable diseases in the communicty. Public health physicians, nurses and epidemiologists assist in case and outbreak investigation, identification of required control measures, surveillance, and training of staff working in local health departments, hospital infection control, and physicians' offices and clinics. Surveillance activities include the monitoring of physician reported cases and laboratory results, and enhanced public health surveillance (syndromic surveillance) conducted for the purpose of early event detection. Explanatory Note: General Communicable Disease excludes Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV/AIDS, as managed by the HIV/AIDS program. |
