| Description |
The NC Assistive Technology Program (NCATP), a state and federally funded program provides information to people of all ages and disabilities about the technology that can improve independence in home, school, work and community life. NCATP is the only agency with assistive technology as its sole focus across all ages and disabilities. Direct Service can be accessed at nine full service centers and thirteen satellite centers; off site in the home, school or work setting; by phone or email. Benefits provided include: technical expertise in selecting the most appropriate device; hands-on demonstration and try-out of low tech and high tech devices for people with disabilities; information on a variety of technology options; funding resource information and strategies; short-term loan of equipment to consumers, families and professionals who serve them; training to consumers, families and professionals; technical assistance to local organizations, schools, and programs to expand assistive technology local service delivery capacity; awareness and outreach activities to inform the public about equipment and devices people with disabilities can use for greater independence. |
