Description Support programs that provide and improve the literacy skills of adults and families and serve individuals most in need of literacy services, including individuals who are low-income, who have minimal literacy skills, and those individuals whose primary language is not English. Applicant must provide instruction of sufficient intensity and duration for participants to achieve substancial learning gains; must use instructional practices that research has proven to be effective in teaching adults and educational activities are to be built on research and effective educational practice; provide studentsopportunity to learn in ''real life'' contexts to ensure that an individual has the skills needed to compete in the workplace and exercise the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. Applicant will provide students with access to computers and other technology. Applicant is to be staffed by well-trained instructors, administrators, and counselors and coordinate with other available resources in the community; provide flexible program schedules and support services such as child care and transportation. Applicant must have a high-quality information management system for reporting participant outcomes and program performance.
