Description The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) seeks to mitigate earthquake losses in the United States through both basic and directed research and implementation activities in the fields of earthquake science and engineering. NEHRP is the Federal Government's coordinated approach to addressing earthquake risks. Congress established the program in 1977 (Public Law 95-124) as a long-term, nation wide program to reduce the risks to life and property in the United States resulting from earthquakes. NEHRP is managed as a collaborative effort among FEMA, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the US Geological Survey (USGS).
Grantee Eligibility State agencies, Federally recognized Indian Tribal governments; local governments, included State-recognized Tribes, authorized Tribal organizaitions, public colleges and universities.
