| Description |
The Workforce Investment Act(WIA) authorizes the use of the funds for youth activities. It establishes the local youth council, whose role is to ensure the provision and coordination of year-round workforce investment activities (including summer employment opportunities) to low income youth in the local area.
The WIA services two youth participant populations: younger youth, ages 14 yrs. to 18 yrs., and older youth, ages 19 yrs. to 21 yrs. There are three (3) levels of services provided: core, intensive and training.
In North Carolina, the One-Stop delivery system is called the JobLink Career Center System. Any youth has access to the One-Stop system and to basic employment-related services. Youth must be low-income individual based on federal guidelines and must experience a specified barrier to employment to receive WIA services. Special emphasis is given to providing services to out-of-school youth. |
